Privacy Policy — HelpTap

HelpTap ("the app", "we", "our") is developed by JBZLS Labs. This policy explains what data the app handles and how, for both the phone app and the Wear OS companion app.
Summary
HelpTap is offline-only. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server. All data stays on your phone and watch unless you personally choose to share a recording using Android's share sheet.
What the app records
- Audio recordings. Started by you, via a tap gesture on the watch face or from the app itself. Stored as audio files on the watch's internal storage, then transferred to the phone's local app storage when you sync.
We do not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, location data, or any other personal data.
Where your data goes
- Recordings are stored locally on your watch and phone only.
- Nothing is uploaded to a server or cloud service operated by us — we don't run one.
- Recordings move from watch to phone only over a direct Bluetooth connection between your own paired devices, initiated by you.
- Recordings leave your device only if you explicitly use Android's Share function to send a file to another app (e.g. Messages, email, cloud storage of your choice). That is entirely your decision, made per recording.
Permissions the app uses
- Microphone (watch) — to record audio when you start a recording. Recording only happens while you have started it; there is no background or continuous listening.
- Notifications (watch) — to show the ongoing recording as a foreground service, as required by Android.
- Vibration (watch) — to confirm a recording has started or stopped without needing to look at the screen.
- Bluetooth (phone and watch) — to detect your paired watch and transfer recordings between your own devices.
Data retention and deletion
Recordings remain on your device until you delete them from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes its locally stored data, subject to normal Android app-storage behavior.
Children's privacy
HelpTap is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
